About the Stories

Long before Her Mother’s Flowers ever had a name, I loved to write. Seven years before I began medical school, I was deep into drafting a trilogy — a project I fully expected to finish. But when medical school began, the pace of that season made it clear that the trilogy would have to wait. What I did not expect was that the Lord would give me something entirely different in its place.

Alone in a new and unfamiliar environment as a freshly matriculated medical student, I vividly remember one quiet morning spent meditating on Isaiah 30:19b–21. As I lingered over the promise, “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’” an image formed in my mind — the Holy Spirit speaking so near that His voice felt like a whisper brushing past a pair of earrings. That moment became the seed of the very first fairy tale of Her Mother’s Flowers. I didn’t know it then, but the Lord had begun a work that would follow me through every year of medical school, residency, and thereafter.

As I studied, worked, and walked with Him, the Lord continued to give me stories — not as the means of my transformation, but as the overflow of it. The real work happened in the quiet places of my life: in small obediences, unexpected mercies, humbling corrections, answered prayers, and the many ways He revealed Himself through His Word. Writing became simply the place where those lessons and glimpses of His character took shape in story form. Each tale became a way of tracing His fingerprints, remembering His faithfulness, and letting His teachings settle more deeply into my heart.

That is why these stories cannot be claimed as mine. They are His. They are testimonies of His steadfastness, reflections of His goodness, and tender echoes of truths He impressed upon me long before they ever appeared on a page. Her Mother’s Flowers became the name because these were the stories that began it all — the first fruits He cultivated in me, the ones that taught me how to listen, how to trust, and how to see Him in every season.
